Welcome
Welcome to Rakaia School the gateway to Mid Canterbury. Rakaia School is set back from State Highway 1 on Dunford Street with beautiful grounds and playing area for the students.
The school has 145 students and 7 classrooms with a dedicated teaching staff and support staff.
Rakaia
School continues to grow in popularity and the Roll has grown very quickly to be 145 at
the end of term 4 2011.
This
is our school website. Please give us any feedback so we can keep this current and
add to the information you require.
Our School Vision statement is:
"Inspiring Minds, Celebrating Success".
We
believe we achieve this through the values of Partnership, Quality and
Respect. Our staff strive hard to encourage children to develop these
values through the work they complete and the way we interact with our
students.
The students at Rakaia have many opportunities to
develop their talents. We take part in interschool events and compete in
academic events such as the Otago Daily Times Spelling Quiz and Social
Studies Quiz.
Houses
The School operates with 4 House Colours and we
elect House Captains who lead their house throughout the year and
encourage competitions at lunch time. The Houses are named after famous
New Zealanders. ( Rutherford, Blake. Hillary and Sheppard) we also elect
a Student Council and a School leader to promote student ideas and
suggestions.
Community art
We
have displayed some of our recent murals below. The children
created these at the end of term 4 2007 and had a great time improving
the look of the school.
The far left is a copy of mural outside room 4.
We are very grateful to the parents who helped with this mural and the
others completed around the school. We appreciated the time and effort
it took to produce these lovely images.
We welcome any enquiries. Please contact our Principal, Mark Ellis.
